Political Atlas
Political Atlas: how power is arranged. This page states what the atlas is, how it decides what to record, and where it still falls short.
What This Atlas Holds
A directory of entries with the links between them made explicit, built to a stated method.
Systems of government lead. Countries under their present constitutional orders belong here. The voice is mechanisms and arrangements, never advocacy, and a canonically disputed question, such as an electoral system's real effects, is recorded as disputed.
Every entry is linked to what it touches, in both directions, so following one connection leads naturally to the next. Reading the atlas is free and always has been. Nothing on the browsing side of this site is behind a payment or an account.
Contested Claims Are Named, Not Settled
Where specialists disagree, the entry says so and stops.
An atlas of this kind is under constant pressure to settle arguments it has no standing to settle. The rule here is that a live disagreement is reported as a disagreement, with the positions attributed, and the entry does not pick a winner it cannot back with a source. Where a widely repeated claim is simply false, the entry says so.
Sources Are Tiered
Every source carries a reliability tier, shown as a badge beside the citation.
Tier 1 is a scholarly reference or peer-reviewed work. Tier 2 is a reputable secondary source, a museum, a university, an established reference site. Tier 3 is a primary account, cited as its own claim rather than as independent evidence of something else. The tier tells a reader which of those jobs a citation is doing, not whether the source is trustworthy in the abstract.
Where This Atlas Is Still Thin
Political Atlas is one of the family's younger atlases, and it reads that way in places. Some entries carry long, cited articles; others are a single line waiting for one. Citation coverage is uneven across the atlas, and an uncited passage is a claim awaiting verification, not a verified claim. Work continues, and the thin parts are thin because they have not been reached yet, not because they were judged unimportant.
How an Error Gets Fixed
Every entry carries a challenges mechanism: a signed-in member with a verified email address can dispute a specific field, state the correction, and give a source. The challenge is stored against the entry and stays visible whether or not it has been resolved. If you would rather write than post, use the contact page.
