The Constitution of Pakistan, known as the 1973 Constitution, was drafted by the government of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto with input from opposition parties, approved unanimously by the 5th Parliament on 10 April 1973 and ratified that 14 August. It establishes Pakistan as a federal parliamentary republic with Islam as the state religion and a requirement that law comply with Quranic and Sunnah principles, and sets out a bicameral legislature, a prime-minister-led executive under a ceremonial president, and a judiciary headed by the Supreme Court; it has been amended 27 times, including the 2010 Eighteenth Amendment restoring parliamentary government after a period of expanded presidential power.
