Constitution of Argentina

Constitutions and Founding Charters

The Constitution of the Argentine Nation was first ratified on 1 May 1853 by a constitutional assembly in Santa Fe, drawing partly on the United States Constitution, and is Argentina's supreme law; it ranks among the oldest national constitutions still in effect. It has been amended repeatedly, including a 1949 revision under Juan Domingo Peron, a 1957 reform reverting largely to the 1898 text while keeping social protections, and the current 1994 reform under Carlos Saul Menem, and it is organized into a preamble and two parts, declarations rights and guarantees, and the authorities of the nation, with fourteen international human rights instruments given constitutional status under Article 75.
