Agreement on Strategic Partnership and Mutual Support

Treaties and International Agreements

The Agreement on Strategic Partnership and Mutual Support is a bilateral treaty between Azerbaijan and Turkey, signed in Baku on August 16, 2010, by Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Abdullah Gul. Its 23 articles, grouped into five chapters covering military-political and security matters, military-technical cooperation, humanitarian issues, and economic collaboration, commit each country to support the other using all possibilities available to it if either faces a military attack or aggression. Ratified by the National Assembly of Azerbaijan in December 2010 and the Grand National Assembly of Turkey in February 2011, the treaty runs for ten years and automatically renews for further ten-year terms unless a party gives notice of withdrawal.
