German Borregales, May 28, 1909, to March 2, 1984, was a Venezuelan journalist, author and politician known for representing the rightist tendency in Venezuelan politics and for repeatedly running for the presidency without success. Trained internationally in journalism, including at Columbia University, he wrote for major Venezuelan newspapers and was strongly anti-communist. He aligned initially with the COPEI party before founding his own party, the National Action Movement, in 1960, and he served one term in the National Assembly from 1968 to 1973 as that party's sole representative. His many unsuccessful presidential campaigns eventually made him a satirical figure in Venezuelan public life.
