Nicusor Dan, born December 20, 1969, in Fagaras, has served as President of Romania since May 26, 2025, after winning the presidential runoff as an independent candidate. A mathematician by training, he holds a doctorate in mathematics from Paris 13 University and represented Romania as a gold medalist at the International Mathematical Olympiad before founding the Save Romania Union party in 2016. He served as Mayor of Bucharest from 2020 to 2025 and as a member of the Chamber of Deputies from 2016 to 2020, and founded the Scoala Normala Superioara Bucuresti, a mathematics research institution, earlier in his career.
