The Labour Party of Norway, formerly the Norwegian Labour Party, is a social democratic political party positioned on the centre-left of the political spectrum and officially committed to social-democratic ideals. Its slogan is safety for the future, and it traditionally seeks a strong welfare state funded through taxes and duties. Since the 1980s it has included more principles of a social market economy in its policy, allowing privatisation of state-owned assets and services, and it has been described by some political scientists and opponents on the left as increasingly neoliberal. It is led by Jonas Gahr Støre, the current prime minister of Norway.
