Murray Rothbard (1926 to 1995) was an American economist of the Austrian School, economic historian and political theorist. He was a central figure in the twentieth-century American libertarian movement, particularly its right-wing strands, and a founder and leading theoretician of anarcho-capitalism. He wrote more than twenty books on political theory, history and economics, arguing that the services the state provides could be supplied more efficiently by the private sector. His book The Ethics of Liberty, published in 1982, grounds a libertarian political position in natural law ethics.
