Robert Paul Wolff (1933 to 2025) was an American political philosopher and professor emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He wrote widely on political philosophy, including Marxism, tolerance, political justification and democracy, and his work on tolerance argued against liberalism and in favor of anarchism. In 1965 he joined Barrington Moore Jr. and Herbert Marcuse in writing A Critique of Pure Tolerance, a book in which the three authors discuss the political role of tolerance.
