Vajiralongkorn, also known by his regnal name Rama X, has been King of Thailand since 2016, succeeding his father Bhumibol Adulyadej. He formally ascended the throne on 1 December 2016 after a period of mourning and is Thailand's tenth monarch of the Chakri dynasty, holding a constitutionally ceremonial role as head of state within Thailand's parliamentary system.
