Sudan is currently governed by the Transitional Sovereignty Council, a military-led body chaired by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan that acts as collective head of state amid civil war between rival factions of the country's armed forces; a Prime Minister heads day-to-day government under a Transitional Legislative Authority provided for in the transitional order. Khartoum is the seat of the central government. The current transitional order rests on the Draft Constitutional Declaration issued on 4 August 2019, after the 2019 coup that ousted President Omar al-Bashir.
