The Constitution of Kenya of 2010 was published on 6 May 2010, approved by 67 percent of voters in an 4 August 2010 referendum and promulgated on 27 August 2010, following a Committee of Experts drafting process and years of pressure for reform after the end of one-party rule in 1991 that intensified after the 2007-2008 post-election violence, whose negotiating deadlock was broken with African Union mediation led by Kofi Annan. It restructured Kenya's governance around devolution of power to regional counties, new limits on executive authority, an expanded bill of rights and reinforced judicial independence.
