The Constitution of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, originally titled the Socialist Constitution, was adopted by the 6th Supreme People's Assembly on 27 December 1972, replacing the country's first constitution of 1948. It has been amended at least thirteen times since, most recently in 2026, and comprises a preamble, seven chapters and 172 articles setting out the state's ideology, political and economic structure, cultural policy, national defense principles and citizens' rights, combining socialist and nationalist elements with the country's Juche ideology; in practice the Ten Principles and the Workers' Party Charter are widely regarded as superseding its provisions.
