The Treaty of Versailles was the peace treaty signed on 28 June 1919 in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles, ending the state of war between Germany and most of the Allied Powers after the First World War. It required Germany to disarm, cede roughly 65,000 square kilometres of territory and seven million people, pay reparations, accept responsibility for the war under Article 231, and accept the Covenant of the League of Nations.
