The Christian Social Union in Bavaria (CSU) is a Christian-democratic and conservative political party founded on 13 October 1945, organizing exclusively in Bavaria as the sister party to the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), which organizes in Germany's other sixteen states. At the federal level the two parties form a single Bundestag faction known as the Union faction (CDU/CSU). The CSU is a member of the CDU/CSU-SPD coalition government led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz since May 2025.
