New Democracy is a liberal-conservative political party in Greece, founded in 1974 by Konstantinos Karamanlis, who formed the first cabinet of the Third Hellenic Republic in the same year. It has been the main centre-right to right-wing party in contemporary Greek politics and, together with its historic rival the Panhellenic Socialist Movement, ruled Greece in succession for four decades after the fall of the military junta. It is a member of the European People's Party, the Centrist Democrat International and the International Democracy Union, and its support ranges from centrists to conservatives.
