Adama Barrow, born February 15, 1965, near Basse Santa Su, has served as the third President of the Gambia since 2017. A real estate developer who had worked in London before founding Majum Real Estate, he became treasurer of the United Democratic Party and was selected as the endorsed candidate of a seven-party opposition coalition for the December 2016 election, defeating long-time incumbent Yahya Jammeh with 43.34 percent of the vote; he was inaugurated in January 2017 and re-elected in 2021.
