Albert II is the reigning Prince of Monaco, the principality's sovereign head of state since the death of his father, Rainier III, in April 2005, having already been appointed regent the week before. Born on 14 March 1958, the only son of Rainier III and the actress Grace Kelly, he was educated at Amherst College, competed as a five-time Olympian in bobsled, and founded the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation in 2006 to support environmental protection causes worldwide.
