Albert Venn Dicey (1835 to 1922) was an English constitutional jurist who held the Vinerian Chair of English Law at Oxford from 1882 to 1909. His Introduction to the Study of the Law of the Constitution (1885) gave the rule of law its classic modern legal formulation, holding that no person is above the law and that every person, however powerful, is subject to the ordinary law of the land administered by the ordinary courts.
