Ali Bongo Ondimba is a Gabonese politician who served as President of Gabon from 2009 to 2023, succeeding his father Omar Bongo and extending the family's rule over the country to 56 years. He was declared the winner of a disputed August 2023 election, but within hours army officers led by his own cousin, General Brice Oligui Nguema, staged a coup, placed him under house arrest and ended his presidency.
