Antonio Jose Seguro is the President of Portugal, sworn in on 9 March 2026 after winning the country's presidential election in a runoff on 8 February 2026 with 66.8 percent of the vote, the highest share ever recorded in a Portuguese presidential contest. Born on 11 March 1962 in Penamacor, he joined the Socialist Party in 1981, served as a member of parliament in the 1990s, led the party's youth wing, and was Secretary-General of the Socialist Party from 2011 to 2014. Before his election he spent nearly two decades as a university lecturer in political science and international relations, and he succeeded Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who had reached the constitutional limit of two terms.
