Asif Ali Zardari served as the 11th President of Pakistan from 2008 to 2013 and resumed the presidency as the 14th President in 2024. A member of the Pakistan People's Party, he rose to prominence through his marriage to former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in 1987 and led the party to victory in the 2008 elections after her assassination. During his first presidency he championed the Eighteenth Amendment, which reduced presidential powers and made the office largely ceremonial.
