Christine Carla Kangaloo, born December 1, 1961, in San Fernando, has served as President of Trinidad and Tobago since March 20, 2023, becoming the first woman in the Americas to succeed another woman as head of state when she took office from Paula-Mae Weekes. Formerly a member of the People's National Movement, she left party politics to run as an independent for the presidency after serving as President of the Senate from 2015 to 2023, and earlier held ministerial portfolios including Legal Affairs and Science, Technology and Tertiary Education, and represented the constituency of Pointe-a-Pierre in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2010. She holds a law degree from the University of the West Indies and a legal education certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School, and began her career as an assistant registrar of the Supreme Court.
