Daniel Roy Gilchrist Noboa Azin, born November 30, 1987, in Miami, Florida, and raised in Guayaquil, has served as the 48th President of Ecuador since November 23, 2023, becoming the youngest person elected to the office in the country's history. He is the son of businessman Alvaro Noboa and physician Annabella Azin, holds a business degree from New York University, an MBA from Northwestern's Kellogg School, and a master's in political communication from George Washington University, and worked in his family's Noboa Corporation banana export business before founding an entertainment company at age 18. Elected to the National Assembly in 2021 representing Santa Elena Province, he chaired its Economic Development Commission until the assembly was dissolved in May 2023. In the resulting snap election, running under National Democratic Action, he advanced from a surprise 23.47 percent first-round finish to defeat left-wing candidate Luisa Gonzalez in the runoff with 55 percent of the vote. He was sworn in for a full term in May 2025, pledging to intensify his government's campaign against drug gangs.
