Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, born September 15, 1942, in Shabani, now Zvishavane, in Southern Rhodesia, has served as the 3rd President of Zimbabwe since November 24, 2017. After President Robert Mugabe dismissed him in November 2017, General Constantino Chiwenga launched a military intervention, Mugabe lost the ruling ZANU-PF party's support and resigned, and Mnangagwa returned from South Africa to assume the presidency. He has since been elected in his own right, most recently in the 2023 general election with 52.6 percent of the vote, and chaired the Southern African Development Community from August 17, 2024 to August 17, 2025.
