Françoise Gaspard is a French sociologist and politician who in 1977 became the Socialist mayor of Dreux, a position she held until 1983, and who later served as a deputy for Eure-et-Loir, a member of the European Parliament and a regional councillor for Centre-Val de Loire. A scholar of migration and gender, she has been a leading advocate for equal political representation of women in France and for the rights of homosexuals, and was appointed France's expert to the European Commission's Women in Decision-Making network in 1991.
