George Herbert Walker Bush, born June 12, 1924, in Milton, Massachusetts, and died November 30, 2018, served as the forty-first President of the United States from 1989 to 1993, after two terms as Vice President under Ronald Reagan. His presidency saw the end of the Cold War and the reunification of Germany, and in 1991 he assembled a broad international coalition that expelled Iraqi forces from Kuwait in the Gulf War following Iraq's 1990 invasion. He lost his 1992 reelection bid to Bill Clinton amid a domestic recession and public frustration over a broken campaign pledge not to raise taxes. He was the father of the forty-third president, George W. Bush.
