Guy Parmelin is a member of Switzerland's collegial Federal Council and holds the country's rotating one-year presidency for 2026, his second time in that ceremonial-but-substantive office after also serving as President in 2021. Born on 9 November 1959 in Bursins in the canton of Vaud, he trained as a winegrower and ran a family vineyard before entering communal and then cantonal politics for the Swiss People's Party, and has sat on the Federal Council since 2016, where he currently heads the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research.
