Haakon Magnus, born July 20, 1973, at the National Hospital in Oslo, is King of Norway, having acceded to the throne on August 28, 2026, upon the death of his father, King Harald V. The only son of Harald V and Queen Sonja, he is a member of the House of Glucksburg and served as Crown Prince of Norway for 35 years, from 1991 to 2026, acting as regent on multiple occasions during his father's health challenges. He trained as a naval officer and holds the position of Supreme Commander of the Norwegian Armed Forces, and studied political science at the University of California, Berkeley, before earning a master's degree in development studies from the London School of Economics. He married Mette-Marit Tjessem Hoiby in 2001; their children are Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus.
