Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, born October 11, 1955, has served as Sultan and Prime Minister of Oman since January 11, 2020, acceding to the throne the day after the death of his cousin, Sultan Qaboos bin Said, on January 10, 2020. He was named the fifteenth ruler of the Al Bu Said dynasty by the royal family and by Qaboos's own will, since Qaboos had left no heir.
