Halla Tomasdottir, born October 11, 1968, in Reykjavik, has served as President of Iceland since August 1, 2024, becoming the country's seventh president and its second woman to hold the office, after Vigdis Finnbogadottir. She won the June 2024 election with 34.1 percent of the vote, a margin of about ten points over former Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir, having previously run unsuccessfully for president in 2016. Before her presidency she was chief executive of The B Team, a global nonprofit organization, and earlier co-founded the investment firm Audur Capital and was a member of the founding team of Reykjavik University in 1998. She holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Auburn University at Montgomery and an MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University.
