Hilda Cathy Heine, born April 6, 1951, in Jaluit Atoll, has served as President of the Marshall Islands since January 3, 2024, her second, non-consecutive term after an earlier term from January 28, 2016, to January 13, 2020, making her the 8th and 10th president. An educator by training who sits as an independent, she previously served as Minister of Education from 2011 to 2016. She holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon, a master's degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and a doctorate in education, earned in 2004, from the University of Southern California.
