Ibrahim Traore, born March 14, 1988, in Kera, Bondokuy, has served as Interim President of Burkina Faso since September 30, 2022, when he led a military coup that overthrew interim President Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba; he was officially appointed interim president on October 6, 2022. A captain in the Burkinabe army and leader of the ruling Patriotic Movement for Safeguard and Restoration junta, he became the world's youngest head of state at the time, at age 34. His transitional mandate was extended by five years in May 2024, and he has not faced a national election.
