Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., born November 30, 1944, in Worsonga, Foya District, Lofa County, has served as the 26th President of Liberia since January 22, 2024, after defeating incumbent George Weah in the second round of the 2023 election held on November 14, 2023. He had already spent twelve years as Vice President under Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, from 2006 to 2018, and earlier served as Liberia's agriculture minister from 1983 to 1985. At his inauguration he became the oldest president in Liberia's history.
