Kamla Susheila Persad-Bissessar, born April 22, 1952, in Siparia, has served as Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago since May 1, 2025, a second, non-consecutive term after first holding the office from 2010 to 2015. She has led the United National Congress since 2010 and represented the constituency of Siparia in Parliament since 1995, having earlier served as Attorney General, Minister of Education, and Leader of the Opposition across several periods between 2006 and 2025, and chaired the Commonwealth of Nations from 2010 to 2011. She holds degrees in arts and law from the University of the West Indies, a legal education certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School, and an executive MBA from the UWI Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business.
