Kristrun Mjoll Frostadottir, born May 12, 1988, in Reykjavik, has served as Prime Minister of Iceland since December 21, 2024, becoming the country's youngest-ever prime minister at age 36. She has led the Social Democratic Alliance since October 28, 2022, and has been a member of the Althing since September 25, 2021; her party won 20.8 percent of the vote and 15 seats in the 2024 snap election, leading to coalition negotiations that resulted in her appointment. An economist by training, she holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Iceland and master's degrees from Boston University and Yale University, and worked at the Central Bank of Iceland, Arion Bank, and Morgan Stanley before entering politics.
