Mary Elizabeth Truss, born July 26, 1975, in Oxford, served as Conservative Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from September to October 2022, the shortest tenure of any prime minister in British history at 49 days. Her government's September 2022 mini-budget, which proposed large unfunded tax cuts, triggered turmoil in financial markets and a sharp fall in the value of the pound, forcing the reversal of most of its measures and the resignation of her Chancellor. She resigned on October 20, 2022, after losing the confidence of her own party.
