Mamadi Doumbouya, born December 5, 1984, in Kankan, has led Guinea since September 5, 2021, when he led a coup that overthrew President Alpha Conde, citing corruption and the country's political situation. He governed as interim president of a military junta until winning a 2025 presidential election with 86.72 percent of the vote, after which he was inaugurated as a civilian president on January 17, 2026; the African Union lifted its post-coup sanctions on Guinea following that election.
