Manuel Marrero Cruz, born July 11, 1963, in Holguin, has served as Prime Minister of Cuba since December 21, 2019, becoming the first person to hold the post since it was abolished in 1976, after a constitutional referendum restored the office. A member of the Communist Party of Cuba trained as an architect, he served as Minister of Tourism from 2004 to 2019, a fifteen-year tenure during which Cuba's tourism sector expanded substantially, including leadership roles at the military-linked tourism enterprise Gaviota, where he held the military rank of colonel. He has been a member of the National Assembly of People's Power since April 2023.
