Mark Carney has served as Canada's 24th Prime Minister since 14 March 2025. Before entering electoral politics he was Governor of the Bank of Canada from 2008 to 2013 and Governor of the Bank of England from 2013 to 2020, the first non-British person to hold that post, and he won the 2025 Liberal Party leadership election by a wide margin before leading the party to electoral victory as the first Canadian Prime Minister without prior elected office experience.
