Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, born September 27, 1940, has served as Emir of Kuwait since December 16, 2023, succeeding his half-brother Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Nawaf's death that day. He had been Crown Prince since October 7, 2020, becoming the world's oldest crown prince at age 80, before which he held senior security and intelligence posts, heading Kuwait's Ministry of Interior intelligence service from 1967 to 1980 and serving as deputy chief of the Kuwait National Guard from 2004 to 2020.
