Mohammed VI (born 21 August 1963) is the King of Morocco, reigning since 23 July 1999 as a member of the Alawi dynasty following the death of his father, King Hassan II. Upon ascending the throne he introduced reforms including changes to family law that expanded women's rights, and his reign has been marked by constitutional reforms following the 2011 Arab Spring protests, modernization of the country's economic and military sectors, promotion of Berber culture and non-sectarian Islam, and an active foreign policy emphasizing relations with African states and normalization of relations with Israel.
