Nasry Juan Asfura Zablah, born June 8, 1958, in Tegucigalpa to a family of Palestinian Christian heritage, has served as President of Honduras since January 27, 2026. A construction businessman who studied civil engineering before leaving to build a career in construction, he is a member of the National Party of Honduras and previously served as mayor of Tegucigalpa from 2014 to 2022 after earlier winning a congressional seat in 2009. He ran unsuccessfully for president in 2021 against Xiomara Castro, then won the National Party's nomination again for 2025 and was declared the winner of that November 2025 election with 40.3 percent of the vote against Liberal candidate Salvador Nasralla, a result contested by rivals amid vote-counting delays. His campaign drew endorsements from United States President Donald Trump and Argentine President Javier Milei, and he has campaigned on strengthening ties with the United States, Taiwan and Israel.
