Nikol Pashinyan, born June 1, 1975, in Ijevan, has served as Prime Minister of Armenia since May 8, 2018, and secured another term after his Civil Contract party, which he has chaired since 2022, won the June 8, 2026, parliamentary election with just under 50 percent of the vote. A journalist by profession who edited the newspaper Haykakan Zhamanak before entering politics, he rose to power through the 2018 Velvet Revolution, which forced the resignation of the previous government, and served in the National Assembly from 2012 to 2018. He studied journalism at Yerevan State University.
