Peter Mutharika has served as President of Malawi since October 4, 2025, a non-consecutive second term after having also served as president from 2014 to 2020. Leader of the Democratic Progressive Party, he defeated incumbent Lazarus Chakwera in the September 16, 2025 general election with 57 percent of the vote, becoming Malawi's seventh president at age 85.
