Prabowo Subianto has served as the eighth President of Indonesia since 20 October 2024. He previously spent five years as Minister of Defence under President Joko Widodo from 2019 to 2024, and is Indonesia's third president with a military background as well as the oldest first-term president in the country's history. Before entering politics he had a lengthy military career, chiefly in the Special Forces (Kopassus) and later commanding the Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad).
