Robert Abela is the Prime Minister of Malta and leader of the Malta Labour Party, having taken office on 13 January 2020 and been returned to government after the general elections of March 2022 and May 2026. Born in Sliema on 7 December 1977, the son of former Maltese President George Abela, he trained as a lawyer at the University of Malta and worked in the family law firm before entering parliament in 2017 and rising to legal adviser to the Cabinet.
