Rodrigo Paz Pereira, born September 22, 1967, in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, has served as the 68th President of Bolivia since November 8, 2025. He comes from a prominent political family: his father is former president Jaime Paz Zamora, and his great-uncle was president Victor Paz Estenssoro. He represented Tarija in the Chamber of Deputies from 2002 to 2010 under the Revolutionary Left Movement, served as president of the Tarija Municipal Council from 2010 to 2015, was mayor of Tarija from 2015 to 2020, and was a senator for Tarija from 2020 to 2025. Running as the Christian Democratic Party candidate in 2025, he placed first in the election's first round in an upset that ended the Movement for Socialism's 20-year dominance of the presidency, then defeated former president Jorge Quiroga with 54.5 percent of the vote in the country's first-ever presidential runoff. His platform aligns with centrist, pro-market positions, including reduced government spending.
