Rumen Radev, born June 18, 1963, in Dimitrovgrad, has served as Prime Minister of Bulgaria since May 8, 2026, becoming the first person in the country's history to hold both the presidency and the premiership, though not at the same time: he resigned as President, an office he had held since January 22, 2017, in January 2026 to found the Progressive Bulgaria party, which then won a parliamentary majority with about 44.6 percent of the vote. A former Bulgarian Air Force major general, he commanded the air force before entering politics and trained at the Georgi Benkovski Bulgarian Air Force University and the United States Air War College, earning a master's degree in strategic studies.
