Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka, born September 13, 1948, in Nakobo, Cakaudrove Province, has served as Prime Minister of Fiji since December 24, 2022, leading a three-party coalition as head of the People's Alliance party. He was democratically elected to the office once before, serving from 1992 to 1999, but is also remembered as the soldier who instigated two military coups in 1987 and briefly headed the resulting interim military government, having earlier commanded the Republic of Fiji Military Forces until 1991. Between his two periods as prime minister he served as deputy prime minister, chairman of the Great Council of Chiefs, chairman of the Cakaudrove Provincial Council, and Leader of the Opposition from 2018 to 2020. He trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and at defence staff colleges in India and Australia.
